FAQ

A short answer and a link. An answer that needs a paragraph is on the page behind the link, and that page is the one to read.

Where do I upload my CSV? Nowhere: no CSV, OFX or QIF reader, and no upload screen. Operations are typed one at a time, or pushed in batches. Import statements shows how.

Does Badlen sync with my bank? No aggregator, no screen-scraper, no open banking. The one thing it reads alone is a crypto wallet, from its public address. Limitations explains what the law asks and what every comparable project does about it.

Can I hold an account in dollars? No. Nothing here converts money, so such an account is refused at creation and a foreign quote enters no total. Limitations spells out what that leaves out.

There is no Add entry in the menu. There are three doors to the add screen instead, and two of them are temporary. Your first account walks you through the first one.

My PEA is worth twice what it should be. The amount box asked for its cash, and an account’s value is that amount plus its lines. The amount field says which box expects what.

A line is worth nothing. The price source could not answer, or the quote came back in a currency nothing converts. Unpriced lines count apart. Holdings says where they go.

I wrote a rule and nothing moved. Recategorize reads only what is filed nowhere; an operation already filed is never rewritten. Categories and rules covers the way around it.

Performance and the dashboard disagree. The dashboard reads your whole net worth; Performance reads the invested lines alone. Performance explains the gap.

Every amount is a dash. Hide amounts is on, and the eye on the dashboard and the user-menu entry are one switch stored on your account. Dashboard shows where it lives.

The FIRE card is missing from Projections. It inverts a year of current-account spending, so with none on file it is not drawn. Financial independence says what it needs.

Backup or export? Two copies: the JSON export is one reader’s data, the pg_dump is the whole machine. Take both. Taking backups sets them side by side.

Is my data encrypted? Two columns are, your two-factor secret and your provider API keys. The rest is in the clear. What is encrypted names every one of them.

My simulator figures are gone on another device. Every simulator but Monte Carlo keeps what you type in that browser alone, in no export. Simulators says which is which.

Where is the Administration tab? Drawn only for an account whose role is admin, which on a fresh instance is whoever registered first. Open registration holds the rule.

I forgot my password and there is no mail server. The reset link goes to the application log, where somebody with server access reads it. First start shows the command.

Why does the demo refuse everything? It is read-only for every visitor: anything but a read answers 403, bar signing out and the JSON export. The demo account lists the two exceptions.

Can several people share one instance? Yes, each seeing their own data and none of anybody else’s. Managing users explains what an administrator can and cannot see.
